Scope of Works:
• Structural repair of bridge columns

Project Description:
Many columns on numerous bridge overpasses showed signs of corrosion at the mid-height down to the base.  The severe spalling and associated deteriorated reinforcement was mainly due to the close proximity of the columns to the busy Interstate.  Constant splashing of snow and slush during the winter season enabled de-icing materials to deteriorate the concrete and reinforcement.  The most severe corrosion was evident in the reinforcing ties.   
Loose cover concrete was removed and the existing concrete and rebar were treated with the Tyfo^® Corrosive Inhibiting Systems.  The Tyfo^® P Epoxy-Mortar patching material was then used to restore the original sections of the columns. Lastly, the columns were wrapped with the glass-based Tyfo^® SEH-51 Composite System.
The non-corrosive composite wrap provides future protection from de-icing infiltration and also provides confinement strengthening replacing the ineffective, deteriorated tie reinforcement.
