Scope of Works:
• Strengthening of slabs and cantilever Balconies on 3 Fire Station Drill Towers

Project Description:
Suffolk County had to make a decision to retain or demolish three fire station drill towers located at Framlingham, Felixstowe and Woodbridge.
The Fire Station Drill towers were built in the 1960’s and had been constructed with the reinforcement in the cantilevers in the wrong place and with insufficient support. The slabs were showing signs of failure on the cantilevers and at the aperture for the ladder access.
Fibrwrap Construction UK provided a design-build solution so that these structures could be repaired and also have their service life extended. Specifically the top and bottom surfaces of the slabs were covered with  Tyfo Fibrwrap Carbon Fiber (SCH) systems with Tyfo S Epoxy and Tyfo Carbon Anchors according to the design. The FRP were covered with special anti-slip paint.
The full scope of works was completed in 10 days and the Drill towers became again operational with a significant prolongation of service life at a fraction of the cost to demolish and rebuild new towers.
