Project Description:
The Main Treatment Plant for Perlite (50tn/hr) was constructed in 1971 and it’s integral to the operation of the whole plant.
The building suffered damage following a close distance high magnitude earthquake. Due to non-seismic resistant connection of the prefabricated beams with the columns supporting them, the corbels and the connection areas of the prefabricated beams were cracked.
Fibrwrap provided a design-build solution with the use of Tyfo Fibrwrap Systems both Carbon (SCH) and Glass (SEH) which not only structurally repair the building but also upgraded it according to the new seismic code.
With the implementation of the Tyfo Fibrwrap systems it was possible to satisfy the requirements of the Owner for a fast process and also that the plant had to be operational during repair works (only small, 3-5 days, prearranged intervals with plant not operating).
